Srinagar, July 26: Police on Wednesday booked “notorious” bovine smuggler and “hardcore” criminal “Goru” who was involved in several cases of attempt to murder including the Birpur firing case. Both were detained under Public Safety Act (PSA) for their involvement in crime over the last several years.
SSP Rajouri Amritpal Singh (IPS) said that action against notorious criminals is the priority of police, with many criminals being booked and detained under the law. Some preventive detentions have also been made, he added.
He said no one would be allowed to pose a threat to order in society and this action shall remain continue in the district in days to come.
“On Wednesday, Mohammad Shakeel, son of Abdul Ghani, a resident of Muradpur, Rajouri, was booked under PSA by the order of DC Rajouri in the view of maintaining public order. He was involved in bovine smuggling for the last three years,” the SSP said, adding, “This notorious bovine smuggler was repeatedly involved in crime for the last several years.”
The order for his detention under PSA was issued by District Magistrate Rajouri and executed by a team of police station Rajouri headed by SI Abdul Qayoom under the supervision of Deputy SP Headquarters Mudassir Hussain.
“Accused Mohammad Shakeel was found involved in multiple cases of bovine smuggling and was a notorious bovine smuggler of the area,” Singh said.
Similarly, under the overall supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Samba Benam Tosh, police on Wednesday detained a hardcore criminal “Goru” under the Public Safety Act (PSA). According to police, he was involved in several cases of attempt to murder including the Birpur firing case, Arms Act, heroin supplying and was acting in a manner prejudicial to the maintenance of public order.
In pursuance of a detention order issued by District Magistrate (DM) Samba upon the dossier forwarded by SSP Samba, he was booked and detained under PSA, police said
The “hardcore” criminal Balwander Singh alias “Goru Jatt”, son of Swarn Singh, a resident of Rahya Ranjari district Samba had been posing a grave threat to the public peace and tranquility and to prevent him from acting in any manner prejudicial to the maintenance of public order, SSP Samba, a dossier was prepared to enumerate his criminal activities and involvements, police said, adding that the dossier was forwarded to the District Magistrate Samba Abhishek Sharma IAS who issued the detention order.
“Goru” was also a notorious heroin supplier and used to supply heroin to the youth of Samba, police said, “Moreover, he was one of the top criminals of the Samba and was posing a threat to the peace-loving people of the district because of his repeated involvement in murderous attacks, criminal intimidation, wrongful restraints, and drug peddling.”
The detention order against notorious criminal “Goru” was executed by a police team headed by SHO Police Station Vijaypur Tribhuwan Khajuria under the supervision of SDPO Vijaypur Rohit Kumar and Additional SP Samba Surinder Choudhary. The detenue has been lodged in District Jail Kathua.
SSP Samba said police are committed to maintaining law and order in society and those acting in a manner prejudicial to public order, peace and tranquility are being dealt with sternly under the law.
