Provincial Inter-District Cricket Tournament kicks off in Kulgam

Kulgam, Sept 26: The Youth Services and Sports Department, Kulgam, kicked off a provincial-level cricket tournament for under 19 girls and teams across the Kashmir division are participating in the tournament. 
An official said, the joint directorate of Youth Services and Sports Kashmir, is organising the tournament, while the District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Kulgam, Mushtaq Ahmad Pampori, on Tuesday inaugurated in presence of zone-wise physical education officers from six zones of the district.
 
He said, after the inaugural ceremony, matches were played at two venues in Kulgam: H.C. Sports Stadium and Kulgam Sports Stadium. Four matches of the tournament were played on the first day.
 
The first match took place between Kulgam and Pulwama at Kulgam Sports Stadium. Pulwama won the toss and chose to bat, setting a target of 56 runs in 12 overs.
 
“Kulgam’s team successfully chased the target, securing a victory with 9 wickets remaining. Similarly, the second match of the tournament was played between Budgam and Baramulla. Budgam managed to score 155 runs in their allotted 12 overs, while Baramulla’s team could only make 52 runs, losing all their wickets,” he said.
 
This marked the first victory for Budgam in the tournament. The second match of the tournament was between Kupwara and Ganderbal. Kupwara won the toss and elected to bat, putting up a formidable score of 108 runs in 12 overs.
 
“In response, Ganderbal’s team fell short by 10 runs, giving Kupwara a victory. Seema Bashir from Kupwara was recognized as the best player of the match. In the final match at Chawalgam Sports Stadium, Anantnag faced off against Srinagar. Srinagar set an impressive target of 190 runs in their allotted 10 overs, while Anantnag’s team could only manage 85 runs, resulting in a victory for Srinagar.
 
Later Mushtaq Ahmad Pampori, the Youth Services and Sports Officer of Kulgam, distributed awards among the players.
