Jammu, Oct 12: Former Legislator and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vikram Randhawa on Thursday said he is proud to be part of the Amrit Vatika, which is to be constructed in New Delhi in the memory of the martyrs who laid down their lives for the sovereignty of the country.
He made these remarks during the ‘Meri Matti Mera Desh’ programme, which was held at Block Satwari, here. The programme was organized by Block Development Officer (BDO) Satwari Kirandeep Kour and was attended by Former Legislator Vikram Randhawa, Deputy Mayor Baldev Singh Billawaria, Charanjeet Singh Khalsa Ex MLC, Avtar Singh, Sonam Aulakh, Balbir Singh and Arshad Bibi, Sarpanch, Avtar Singh Naib Sarpanch and all Panchs.
On the occasion, the soil collected from the houses of the martyrs in Block Satwari was handed over to BDO Kirandeep Kour.
While speaking on the occasion, the former legislator threw light on the “Meri Maati Mera Desh” campaign, saying, “Meri Maati Mera Desh envisions a unified celebration of India’s soil and valour, commemorating the nation’s journey of freedom and progress. By connecting with the land and honouring our heroes, this program will instill a sense of national pride and inspire future generations to protect India’s cherished heritage. This campaign comprises many activities and ceremonies conducted across the country at panchayat/village, block, urban local body, state and national levels.”
Randhawa informed the people about the dedication of Shilaphalakam (Memorial). “A fundamental aspect of the program is to express heartfelt gratitude to all the bravehearts (Veers and Veeranganas) who have made the supreme sacrifice. On the Shilaphalakam, the names of the bravehearts shall be inscribed. These shall include freedom fighters, defence personnel, the personnel of Central Armed Police Forces and State Police who laid down their lives in the line of duty.”
Shilaphalakam shall be erected locally within panchayats and villages as well as urban sites—likely near Amrit Sarovars or local schools or other prominent locations, he said, adding that in the campaign “Meri Mati, Mera Desh”, the term “Shilaphalakam Installation” refers to the “installation of the Idols of Veers.”
This likely involves installing statues or idols to honour and commemorate brave individuals (Veers) who have made significant contributions to the nation, he stated.
Randhawa also briefed the people about the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative.
In his speech, Deputy Mayor Baldev Singh Billawaria and former MLC Charanjeet Singh threw light on the sacrifices made by the people including security personnel to save the sovereignty of the nation. In the end, BDO Satwari Kirandeep Kour presented a vote of thanks.
