Ganderbal, April 21: In a significant step to ensure the health and safety of Hajj pilgrims, a special vaccination and health screening camp was organised at Trauma Hospital Kangan. The initiative, a key part of the pre-Hajj protocol, was overseen by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Block Medical Officer (BMO) Dr Arshid and the Medical Superintendent of the hospital.
The drive aimed to prepare local pilgrims for the strenuous pilgrimage by ensuring they are medically fit and vaccinated against potential health risks commonly encountered during Hajj, where millions of people gather from across the globe.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Arshid highlighted the importance of such preventive measures. “The hospital arranged a comprehensive health check-up followed by administration of mandatory vaccines. Our team of doctors and paramedics ensured each pilgrim was thoroughly assessed before vaccination,” he said.
A total of 20 pilgrims from the Kangan sub-division are scheduled to perform Hajj this year. Out of these, 18 pilgrims were present and successfully vaccinated. However, two pilgrims currently stranded in Gurez due to road closures were unable to attend.
“We have reserved their vaccines and issued their Hajj health cards in advance,” Dr Arshid added. “As soon as the road connectivity is restored and they return, they will be vaccinated immediately to ensure no delay in their pilgrimage preparations.” The drive was conducted in a smooth and organised manner, reflecting the hospital’s commitment to public welfare. Pilgrims expressed their gratitude for the efficient arrangements and medical support provided to them.
Health authorities reiterated that vaccination against certain diseases, such as meningitis and influenza, is mandatory under international health regulations for all Hajj travellers. This is crucial to prevent disease outbreaks during the pilgrimage, given the high density of people congregating in a confined area. The event at Kangan Trauma Hospital is part of a broader state-wide initiative aimed at facilitating a safe and healthy Hajj journey for all pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir.
