Srinagar, Jan 23: A day after a civilian was injured in a grenade blast in Eidgah area of Srinagar, security agencies on Monday have been asked to keep strict vigil and surveillance across the Kashmir region.
A senior police officer told Rising Kashmir that following multiple ‘terror’ attacks last week in Srinagar and Jammu cities that left 10 persons injured, “We have clear directions from the higher-ups to intensify surveillance and maintain vigil across hotspots in the region. The security situation is being reviewed and loopholes are being addressed closely,” he said.
The police officer said additional forces of police and paramilitary forces were deployed at vital spots. Apart from that CCTV surveillance, nakas, and frisking points are in place following security concerns in the city.
“Loopholes are being reviewed to ensure a peaceful atmosphere in the region. We have taken review meetings following the grenade attack on Sunday. Few suspects were picked up for questioning and investigation is underway in the case,” he said.
The terror attack came at a time when the authorities were on high alert in view of the coming Republic Day celebrations.
On Monday, police and the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) intensified patrolling, vehicle checking, and frisking at various flash points at Lal Chowk, Karan Nagar, and other areas.
“New security plan has already been framed and accordingly the deployment would remain in place for smooth conduct of the function in the entire region,” he said.
While the main Republic Day function will take place in Jammu, the biggest function in the valley will be held at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here at Sonwar. The security around the venues of Republic Day functions in the valley including the cricket stadium.
On Sunday, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole told Rising Kashmir that all arrangements have been finalized for the January 26 celebrations in Kashmir. We have finalized all arrangements from top to bottom level including venues, security, and other things, he said.
