Srinagar, March 19: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday said that after the delimitation of Assembly constituencies, Naidkhai Block in Bandipora district of north Kashmir is now part of the Bandipora Assembly segment.
In a reply to question of MLA Bandipora Nizamuddin Bhat, the government said that the block is connected to Bandipora via the Naidkhai-Markundal-Hajin-Ajas road, which spans 17.20 km and joins the Srinagar-Bandipora road at Ajas (Km 40).
Providing details of the road’s condition, the government said that the Naidkhai to Markundal stretch (5 km) is currently a single-lane BT road. Recently, 1.5 km of this section was partially upgraded to an intermediate macadamized road under the C&T plan.
The Markundal to Hajin stretch (5 km), which also has a single-lane BT surface, is undergoing upgradation under NABARD’s RIDF XXIX scheme. This project will widen the road from 12 feet (single lane) to 18 feet (intermediate width). For the Hajin to Ajas section, the government stated that this part of the road already has sufficient width, varying between 4.0 to 5.5 meters, and offers a good riding surface. The government assured that efforts are being made to further improve road infrastructure in the area, ensuring smoother and safer travel for residents of Naidkhai Block.
