Srinagar, August 11: Residents of Syed Kamal Ud Din (SKD) Colony in Srinagar find themselves grappling with distressing conditions, as issues of inadequate drainage and deteriorating road conditions persist, leaving them frustrated. The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is facing criticism for its apparent failure to address these pressing concerns.
The inhabitants of SKD Colony are particularly burdened by the absence of proper drainage facilities, a problem that becomes especially acute during the rainy season. Abdul Majeed, a local resident, informed Rising Kashmir that the lack of an efficient drainage system from the Government Dispensary to the interior of SKD Colony results in rainwater seeping into homes, causing significant inconvenience and property damage.
“This has turned into a recurring nightmare for the residents, especially during rainfall,” he expressed, adding that last year, local residents had pooled funds from their own pockets to construct drainage, but to no avail.
Local residents are appealing to the SMC to urgently address the situation and initiate the construction of a new drainage system alongside the existing road infrastructure.
Another local resident, Aijaz Ahmad, highlighted that the regular blockage of rainwater is causing immense inconvenience to the community. “We appeal for the construction of a new drainage system alongside the road to prevent waterlogging in the area,” he urged.
Residents have also registered complaints about the dilapidated condition of the roads in the vicinity. They pointed out that the road leading from Eidgah to SKD Colony has not been properly maintained by the authorities.
Mohammad Aqib, another resident, emphasized that the road is riddled with potholes, causing significant problems for people. “The road has been in a state of disrepair for the past year, greatly affecting commuters, especially shopkeepers who grapple with issues due to the dust emanating from the road,” he explained.
Frustrated by the situation, the residents fervently appealed to the City Mayor and the Commissioner of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to visit the area and resolve the issues, allowing them to finally breathe a sigh of relief.
