Ganderbal, Feb 17: In a significant achievement, Police have secured convictions in three major cases, including a POCSO, rape case and NDPS cases, ensuring justice within a remarkable span of three months in Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir.
Addressing a press conference, SSP Ganderbal Raghav S said that the police department’s commitment to justice and deterrence against crime. He said that these convictions underscore the department’s dedication to upholding the law and safeguarding the rights of victims.
“In the first case, the court convicted Mohammad Saleem Taploo, son of Mohammad Maqbool Taploo, a resident of Anchar Soura, currently residing in Saidpora, Eidgah Srinagar. He was found guilty under Section 363 RPC (kidnapping) and Section 4 of the POCSO Act for offences against a minor,” the SSP said, adding, that “The court sentenced him to seven years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 25,000 for kidnapping, and 20 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 50,000 under the POCSO Act.”
In the second case, Aamir Ashraf Zargar, son of Mohammad Ashraf Zargar, a resident of Waripora Safapora, was convicted under Sections 363 RPC (kidnapping) and 376 RPC (rape). He received seven years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 for kidnapping, along with another seven years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 for rape. The sentences will run concurrently.
In the third case, related to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the court convicted Sahil Ahmad Khan, son of Manzoor Ahmad Khan, and Rizwan Ahmad Khan, son of Ghulam Hassan Khan, both residents of Khan Mohalla Pati Shallbugh, Ganderbal. They were each sentenced to six months of imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000 under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
SSP Ganderbal said that these convictions reflect the prompt action and meticulous investigation carried out by the police. He reiterated the department’s resolve to maintain law and order while ensuring justice for victims, warning that strict action will continue against those involved in criminal activities.
