Srinagar, Mar 3: Four people were arrested after the J&K Police dismantled a complex conspiracy aimed at falsely implicating an individual in a narcotics case in Srinagar. In a separate case, a New Delhi based drug leader was also caught in connection with the delivery of drugs through courier.
Addressing media men in Srinagar, Superintendent of Police (SP), South City, Shabir Ahmad said that the investigation began on February 24 after a lawyer Yusha Yousuf Mir alerted Shaheed Gunj Police Station about a suspicious vehicle, registration number JK01 AX-8467, frequently parked near Oasis School in Karan Nagar.
“Following surveillance, a magistrate was summoned, and a search of the vehicle, owned by Manzoor Ahmad Bhat of Natipora, was conducted. During the search, 452 grams of charas were recovered from the boot space and under the rear seat, leading to Bhat’s immediate arrest under FIR No. 05/2025 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act,” he said.
SP Shabir said that the subsequent investigation revealed a deliberate attempt to frame Bhat. Police discovered that the contraband had been planted by his associates, Mohd Shafi Badyari, Arshid Ahmad Wani, and Toufeeq Ali, who had access to the vehicle prior to the search. Further investigation revealed that Zahoor Ahmad Mir and Rouf Ahmad Mir were also involved in this conspiracy, he said.
“The accused had been plotting against Bhat for five months, driven by a land dispute and extortion demands. The illicit drugs were reportedly procured in advance and stored at a shop in Rambagh before being placed in Bhat’s vehicle,” he said.
SP South further said that four of the accused, Mohd Shafi Badyari, Arshid Ahmad Wani, Toufeeq Ali, and Rouf Ahmad Mir, were apprehended on February 26 and additional contraband was recovered. The accused have been charged under Section 29 of the NDPS Act and Sections 228 and 229 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“This was a meticulously planned operation intended to maliciously implicate an innocent man. We are committed to ensuring justice and will pursue all leads to bring every individual involved in this conspiracy to book,” he said.
