Srinagar, July 05:In a bid to harness solar energy and reduce electricity bills, Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has launched the PM Surya Ghar ‘MuftBijliYojana’, urging domestic consumers to seize the opportunity.
Under this flagship initiative, subsidised solar rooftop installations are set to transform 36,400 households across Kashmir Division by March 31, 2027.
Highlighting the scheme’s benefits, a spokesperson for KPDCL emphasised that beneficiaries can avail substantial subsidies, with up to 60% off on solar system costs for capacities up to 2 kW, and 40% for systems between 2-3 kW. For instance, a system costing Rs 1.59 lakh would receive a subsidy of Rs 85,800.
In a significant facilitation, no Technical Feasibility Report is required for systems up to 10 kWp, simplifying the application process. Empanelled Solar PV vendors are being swiftly onboarded on the national PM Surya Ghar portal to expedite installations.
To ensure widespread awareness, KPDCL is conducting awareness camps and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns across Electric Divisions. Consumers are encouraged to register and apply through the designated portal at www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in or via the hyperlink on www.kpdcl.jkpdd.net.
By embracing solar energy, households not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also stand to benefit from reduced electricity expenditures, making the PM Surya Ghar scheme a beacon of clean energy adoption in Jammu and Kashmir.
