Srinagar, Aug 05: In an effort to train youth in remote areas of the Doda district, The PM Shri Government High School Shooli of Kastigarh has emerged as a prime example in Jammu and Kashmir. The school has provided training to 110 students and unemployed girls under the National Development Council initiative within the school.Riaz Ahmad, a teacher at the school told Rising Kashmir that from December 2023 to 2024, three vocational courses have been initiated at the school through the National Skill Development under the PMKVY 4.0 flagship scheme. “During this period, a public notice was issued in the area. We have launched a four-month program for three courses under this initiative: Data Entry Operator, Community Journalism, and Sewing Machine Operator (Tailoring course) courses,” he said.”In Data Entry Operator course, 55 students from The PM Shri Government High School Shooli have registered. In the Sewing Machine Operator or Tailoring course, 55 girls have enrolled, including 20 students from school and 32 unemployed girls from the village,” Riaz Ahmad stated. He said that all students, unemployed girls, and other participants have successfully completed the four-month course under the National Skill Development Council. The students and unemployed youth who completed their courses did not have to pay any fees, as everything was covered under this initiative.”The classes were held regularly at the school. In tailoring course, an experienced woman tailor with an ITI Diploma from the local area was employed under this scheme to provide training classes at the schools. In the Community Journalism course, a holder of a mass communication degree was also engaged to offer classes and training to interested individuals in the community journalism field. Similarly, in the Data Entry Operator course, students from the school received training under this four-month program,” he saidRiaz said that these students are not only excelling academically but are also working part-time in local shops to earn money on an hourly basis. Despite the challenges posed by remote living, a lack of resources, and limited access to career opportunities, these young students have adopted a comprehensive approach to their personal and professional development.”However, other unemployed women who have also undergone training under this National Skill Development Council initiative at this school are also earning a livelihood in the area. This area is one of the remote areas in the Doda district, where individuals often discontinue their education after the 10th and 12th grades. Since the National Skill Development Council launched this initiative at the school, many students and unemployed youth are now earning their livelihoods in the area,” Ahmad said
