Srinagar, Sept 20: The Sericulture Development Department,
Jammu and Kashmir, celebrated the Platinum Jubilee and National Silk
Day at the Sericulture Complex, Tulsibagh, Srinagar, under the
leadership of Mr. Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director Sericulture J&K.
The
celebrations are also being held in Karnataka State Open University
(KSOU) in Mysuru, Central Silk Board and across all the Sericulture
States in India. Besides, the event was celebrated in Kathua, Udhampur,
Rajouri, Anantnag, Baramulla, and many other districts across J&K as
well, with participants pledging to revitalize the sericulture sector and
boost its production. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from silkworm rearers, farmers, youth, women, and employees.
During the celebration, Bhat distributed valuable Sericulture literature among the participants and emphasized the importance of knowledge sharing to enhance the skills of those involved in the industry.
He highlighted the critical need to increase Silk Cocoon production and the establishment of more reeling and weaving units for manufacturing premium-quality silk products indigenously.
He stressed that these efforts should align with the parameters set forth by Silk Mark India, ensuring that J&K silk gains National and International recognition for its superior quality and further stressed to strengthen marketing avenues of the cocoon produce and the Silk products across the county.
On the occasion Director called for collective and concerted efforts from all stakeholders to help the region secure a prominent position in the silk sector at the national level.
By working closely with silkworm rearers, farmers, and youth, the
Director urged all officers and field functionaries to boost quality Silkworm Seed and cocoon production in J&K. He also took the opportunity to highlight the role of entrepreneurship in this transformation and stressed to encourage the youth of J&K to take advantage of the various facilities, subsidies and support extended by the department.
He urged the officer of the department to strengthen their efforts to guide the younger generation to join hands with the department and embark on the path of prosperity and progress. This, he added, would help drive unprecedented growth in the Sericulture Industry in the region.
Reiterating his unwavering commitment to the sericulture sector,
Bhat emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the various schemes available, such as the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) and Silk SAMAGRA of CSB.
He urged officers and field staff to work on a mission mode to educate silkworm rearers, farmers, and youth about the benefits and opportunities offered by these programs, besides, make concerted efforts for skill up-gradation of all the stakeholders of Sericulture Sector so that they shall utilize their expertise in doubling their cocoon production and silk manufacturing capacity manifold.
On this special occasion, the Director Sericulture J&K inaugurated a
mulberry plantation drive by planting a mulberry sapling within the
premises of the Directorate of Sericulture Development Department, Tulsi Bagh Srinagar to further strengthen the silk industry’s foundation by expanding mulberry propagation which is essential for increasing leaf foliage reserves in J&K.
Bhat extended warm greetings to all stakeholders, stating: “Happy National Silk Day and Platinum Jubilee celebration to all stakeholders throughout J&K and the country, committed to revitalizing the silk industry and providing full support to silkworm rearers and silk yarn reelers.
