Jammu, Jan 23: Senior leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) paid heartfelt tributes to the late party leader Yashpal Sharma on his death anniversary.
According to a party statement, General Secretary Amrik Singh Reen, Narinder Sharma, K K Sharma, Suchet Singh, Sudesh Kumar, and Varinder Singh, Remembering Sharma described Yashpal Sharma as a “towering personality, great mobilizer, and a loyal and experienced leader”.
Known for his eloquence and strong connection with the masses, Sharma was often referred to as the ‘Sher-e-Poonch’ (Lion of Poonch). Reen highlighted Sharma’s significant contributions, emphasizing that he was a renowned political figure across Jammu and Kashmir and the tallest leader in the region.
“Yashpal Sharma Ji worked tirelessly without bias for the people and was a thorough gentleman, astute politician, and down-to-earth personality. He consistently raised his voice for the underprivileged sections of society, leaving an enormous impact on people, the party, and various social causes,” he said.
Narinder Sharma, while paying his respects to the veteran leader, described Yashpal Sharma as “a voice of the people.” “Sharma Ji was recognized as one of the few individuals with rare knowledge about every aspect of Jammu and Kashmir’s history, dating back to before 1947. He dedicated his entire life to promoting peace, goodwill, and communal harmony in society,” he said.
Recalling his personal association with Sharma, Narinder praised him as a “great professional and a noble soul”. Sharma’s integrity, honesty, dedication, and boldness were highlighted, emphasizing his role in fostering socio-political awakening in the border district of Poonch, he said.
Narinder lamented the loss of a seasoned, public-spirited, and dedicated politician at the state level, saying Poonch lost a beloved, respected, and broad-hearted leader who prioritized public service above everything else.
