Jammu, Jan 24: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday held a tribute ceremony at Kotli Shah Doula in RS Pura Jammu South constituency to commemorate the third death anniversary of its MLC, Yashpal Sharma. The event saw senior PDP leaders paying their respects to the late leader, hailing his contributions to the people, the party, and social causes.
PDP senior leader Narinder Sharma led the tributes, describing Yashpal Sharma as a “towering personality, great public mobilizer, and a loyal and experienced leader.” Sharma recalled the late leader’s simplicity, honesty and humility, noting that he earned the respect of people from all faiths, shades, and ideologies, often referred to as ‘Sher-e-Poonch’ (Lion of Poonch) for his fearless voice and leadership in the border belt of Rajouri-Poonch.
“Yashpal Sharma’s legacy continues to inspire, with demands to rename the Poonch Sports Stadium after him as a tribute to his contributions,” the PDP leader said, adding that his death is still remembered as a great loss to Jammu and Kashmir, and his life’s work remains a testament to his dedication to the people and the region.
Narinder Sharma praised Sharma as “a voice of the people” and a “great professional and a noble soul.” He highlighted Sharma’s integrity, honesty, dedication, and boldness, emphasizing his role in fostering socio-political awakening in the border district of Poonch.
The PDP leaders also recalled Yashpal Sharma’s association with late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed throughout his life, saying he was a close confidant of the late leader since the days of Janta Dal.
