NSD stages Girish Karnad’s Nagamandala play at Tagore Hall

Srinagar, Feb 24: On the second day of the 22nd Bharat Rang Mahotsav, the National School of Drama (NSD) on Friday staged Girish Karnad’s acclaimed play Nagamandala, here at Tagore Hall.
Directed by Akhilesh Narain, Nagmandal is a classic play, which depicts the image of a woman in society. Focusing on folk culture, Karnad takes inspiration from mythology and folklore.
“The story has interesting turning points which make it appealing”, said Prof. Deeba Sarmad, Dean Cluster University, who was the chief guest on the occasion.
Nagmandal is the story of a young girl – Rani – newly married to Appanna and their gradual understanding of the role, function and responsibilities of the institution of marriage.
On the concluding day of the National Theatre Festival, Hindi play ‘Triyatra’ will be staged at the Tagore Hall today.
The play fest, which began here on February 23, is being organized by the NSD in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) with Cluster University, Srinagar as a facilitator.
