Srinagar, July 01: Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Srinagar (Soura) has referred over 350 posts to Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) and the posts are expected to be filled within six months, newly appointed director SKIMS has said.
Director SKIMS, Prof (Dr) M. Ashraf Ganie said there are some issues at SKIMS and expressed optimism that they will overcome the problems and take the institute to the next level. He said all the issues will be resolved within a year.
“In the first 100 days, I plan to identify manpower issues, equipment shortages, and maintenance problems, and address them with the relevant parties for resolution,” he said.
The director stated that 367 positions, including paramedical staff posts at SKIMS, have been referred to JKSSB, and the recruitment will be completed within six months.
Regarding the recruitment of faculty positions, he mentioned that the process has already begun. He emphasized that they are committed to completing this recruitment as quickly as possible to ensure that the institution is staffed with qualified faculty members promptly.
Prof Ganie remarked that the faculty of SKIMS performs at par with international standards. However, he stressed the need to cultivate a perception among the public that their work is of the highest quality and continuously improving.
“SKIMS can compete with international institutions as the medical university produces specialists and super specialists who serve at national and international institutions,” he said.
Research is a crucial aspect of SKIMS, and there are plans to revitalise the research culture. “Our goal is to elevate medical research at SKIMS to international standards, ensuring that our findings and contributions are globally recognised,” he said.
The director said the largest tertiary care institute in the valley should set an example at the national level. The doctors trained at SKIMS are well-regarded and work at prestigious institutions across the country, he said.
About the up-gradation of machinery, he also stated that the process of procurement of another MRI machine is ready and it may take some time and it will soon become a reality at SKIMS adding that the government has extended full support for the same.
The director also said that the third CT Scan at the institute would be made functional soon at the SKIMS which will ease patient care.
About the shortage of many important medicines that are often not available at SKIMS he said that the institute will try to make all the drugs available for the convenience of patients.
