Srinagar, May 01: The National Medical Commission has directed medical colleges across the country not to grant leave to students on May 2 and 3, 2026, except in exceptional circumstances with proper justification ahead of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET-UG).
The medical institutions in the country have been directed to remain vigilant and sensitise students against involvement in any activities that could compromise the examination process.
The advisory follows instructions issued by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, aimed at maintaining the sanctity and integrity of the national-level entrance exam.
As per the communication sent to the medical colleges it mentions that in view of certain instances reported in the past, and as a matter of general deterrence, all Medical Colleges / Institutions shall remain vigilant and ensure that medical students are sensitized against any involvement in activities prejudicial to the conduct of the said examination.
“Further, as a preventive step to discourage any potential misuse and to support the fair conduct of the examination, it is advised not to grant leave to students on May 2nd and 3rd, 2026, except in exceptional circumstances with due justification,” it said.
This year, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced multiple safeguards to make the NEET-UG 2026 more secure, including biometric verification at different stages of the examination process.
The NEET UG exam is scheduled to be held on May 3, 2026 (Sunday) in a single shift from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. across examination centres in India and abroad.
