Srinagar, Jul 08: The National Conference (NC) on Tuesday held a one-day party convention at Townhall Kulgam to commemorate the 19th martyrdom anniversary of veteran leader and former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Shaheed Ghulam Nabi Dar.The convention was presided over by NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah and organised by the party’s State Spokesperson and In-Charge Kulgam Constituency, Imran Nabi Dar, according to an official statement issued here. The event witnessed a strong show of unity and reverence with the presence of senior party leaders, including Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo, Advisor to CM Nasir Aslam Wani, Provincial President Adv. Showkat Ahmad Mir, MLAs Abdul Majeed Bhat Larmi, Showkat Hussain Ganaie, Peerzada Faroz, Provincial Secretary Syed Tauqeer, District President Safdar Khan, Women’s Wing District President Sakina Ji, YNC South Zone President Feroz Wani, along with office bearers of the Youth National Conference (YNC), Women’s Wing, and the parent body.Earlier in the day, party functionaries gathered at the gravesite of the late leader to offer tributes and Fatiha, remembering his selfless contribution to the region’s political and social fabric.Paying tributes to Shaheed Dar, Dr Abdullah said, “Ghulam Nabi Dar was more than a politician; he was a sincere soldier of the party and a tireless advocate of the downtrodden. His life was a reflection of humility, service, and dedication to the people. On this solemn day, I urge every party worker to draw inspiration from his example. The best way to honour his memory is by serving the people with the same honesty and commitment he displayed throughout his life.”Echoing the sentiments, Advisor to CM and senior leader Nasir Aslam Wani said, “Shaheed Ghulam Nabi Dar exemplified the values that the National Conference stands for. His unshakeable resolve and grassroots connection made him a beloved figure. I call upon our party cadres to carry forward his mission and be the voice of the people, especially as we gear up for the upcoming ULB and Panchayat elections.”Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo, in her tributes, said, “On this day I remember late Dar sb with reverence, who was a committed party man and was always at the forefront to alleviate the problems of people. His commitment to help those in need will always be remembered. I pay glowing tributes to him on this day. May Almighty elevate his stations in Jannat.”Other speakers, including Adv Showkat Mir, Imran Nabi Dar, Abdul Majeed Bhat Larmi, and Peerzada Faroz remembered the late leader’s role in strengthening the party at the grassroots and advocated for unity, discipline, and proactive engagement with the people. The convention concluded with a collective resolve to uphold Shaheed Ghulam Nabi Dar’s legacy and strengthen the party’s connection with the masses, ahead of the crucial local body elections.
