Jammu, Dec 25: Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Additional General Secretary of Jammu & Kashmir National Conference and former Minister, has accused the BJP-led double engine government at the Centre of betraying refugees from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
In a meeting here, Sadhotra addressed the issues faced by the people, highlighting the shortage of basic amenities such as power, water, roads, medical facilities, and civic amenities, the party said in a statement issued here.
He expressed deep concern over the unfulfilled commitments made to PoJK refugees by the BJP-led Central Government. Despite the identification of over 36,000 refugee families in Jammu and Kashmir under Omar Abdullah’s leadership, their plight remains unaddressed, he said.
The NC leader criticized the Centre for providing a meagre compensation of Rs 5 lakh per family instead of the recommended Rs 25-30 lakh per family. He assured that if the National Conference is voted to power, it will strive to engage with the Centre to provide the remainder of the compensation to the refugees. The senior leader emphasized the party’s commitment to truth, integrity, and addressing the concerns of the people.
Rattan Lal Gupta, in his address, urged party workers to actively counter misleading campaigns by BJP leaders. He highlighted the growing unrest and chaos in the region and emphasized the National Conference’s role in being the voice of the people. Gupta urged party workers to engage directly with the public, stating that their role is not just to contest elections but to stand for the aspirations of the people.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary of JKNC, Jammu, reiterated the party’s commitment to restoring stability and addressing the pressing concerns of the people in Jammu and Kashmir. He called on party workers to remain steadfast and dedicated in the mission to bring peace and prosperity to the region.
