Jammu, March 09: Natrang staged the Hindi play Ajgar Raaj, written by Chiranjeet and directed by Neeraj Kant, at Natrang Studio Theatre as part of its weekly Sunday Theatre series. The play is a powerful satirical critique of imperialist ambitions, expansionist policies, and the relentless pursuit of global conflict, exposing the dangers of militarisation and dictatorial propaganda.
Set in the court of Ajgar Raaj, the story begins on his 74th birthday celebrations, where he proclaims himself immortal, having received a boon from his master, ‘Shaitaan’. Declaring his commander as the crown prince in the absence of his prime minister, Ajgar Raaj announces that his “Lal Kitab” must be revered as a divine text, with its teachings broadcast worldwide. He demands the eradication of all religions and sects, seeking absolute power through fear and destruction.
However, as his prime minister returns from a diplomatic tour, he delivers a stark reality check—civil unrest is brewing in their own land, global influence is waning, and the world is no longer intimidated by their threats. Enraged, Ajgar Raaj orders an attack on India, but his ambitions collapse into ridicule as echoes of laughter fill the air, symbolising global defiance against tyranny. The play featured Natrang’s young artists including Aryan Sharma, Adaksh Bagal, and Krishay Bhatia. Lighting was designed by Neeraj Kant, while Mehak Chib composed the music. The show was coordinated by Mohd Yaseen.
