Srinagar, Apr 08: National Conference (NC) senior leader and Advisor to Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani Sogami on Tuesday welcomed the removal of DDC Budgam Nazir Ahmad Khan after a year-long legal and political battle, saying his removal signifies a strong affirmation of democratic will at the grassroots level.
In a statement issued here, Nasir said, “This incident exposes the extreme measures that an individual, with silent support, can take to hold onto power. However, it also confirms a fundamental truth: democracy may be delayed, but it cannot be denied. The people’s will has triumphed, demonstrating that accountability, no matter how delayed, is inevitable.”
Expressing satisfaction with the court’s decision not to provide protection to Khan, thus allowing the meeting to proceed as directed, the CM’s Advisor said, “In a desperate attempt to maintain the status quo, Nazir Ahmad Khan filed a petition to halt the no-confidence meeting scheduled for April 7. The court rejected the plea and denied him protection, clearing the way for the meeting to take place as planned. The petitioners, all 13 elected DDC members, were represented by Advocates Zamir Abdullah and Zahir Abdullah, whose legal intervention played a crucial role in upholding the democratic mandate.”
This victory serves as a reminder that the voice of the people cannot be silenced and that justice will prevail in the face of adversity, Wani added.
