‘Nasha Mukt J&K’: Transporters join anti-drug drive

SRINAGAR 22 April : – Srinagar witnessed a united push against drug abuse as transporters and government officials came together under the ‘Nasha Mukt J&K’ initiative to promote drug-free roads and safer communities.

 

The campaign, led by local authorities in collaboration with transport unions, aims to curb substance abuse among drivers and raise awareness about its risks, marking a significant step toward a healthier and more responsible transport sector in the city.

 

On Wednesday, a high-profile one-day symposium was held in Srinagar, centered on the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan.

 

​The event was a collaborative effort organized by the Green Valley Taxi Sumo Union in partnership with the city Traffic Police, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), and the Bharat Association of Road Safety Volunteers (BARS).

The symposium brought together key officials and civil society representatives, including Er. Mubashir Jan of the ARTO Flying Squad Kashmir and Dy.SP Traffic City Suhail Reshi. Also present were social reformer S. Umar Bhat, environmentalist Dr. Tauseef, and several road safety activists. Speakers highlighted the dangerous link between substance abuse and road accidents, calling on the transport community to play a proactive role in combating the drug menace.

 

In a notable step toward safer public transport, the Green Valley Sumo Union unveiled a new policy reserving three middle seats exclusively for women. The initiative was formally launched by the dignitaries, aiming to enhance comfort and security for female passengers.

 

“Road safety and a drug-free society must go hand in hand,” said Aafaq Ahmad, Chairman of the Union. “By ensuring both passenger dignity and responsible, drug-free driving, we are redefining public service.”

The event concluded with a joint pledge by transporters and members of civil society to maintain safety, accountability, and integrity on the Valley’s roads.
