Kulgam, Jan 31: Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Kulgam on Wednesday said that, as part of the ongoing activities during the road safety month, they will provide training to drivers on first aid and CPR as an effort to reduce the fatality rate in the district.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Kulgam, Abrar Ahmad Kripak, told Rising Kashmir that the road safety month is observed nationwide, and each district has prepared a schedule for activities throughout the month. As part of these activities, a friendly cricket match was held on Wednesday to promote a positive environment during the ongoing 35th road safety month.
Kripak said that the road safety month is set to conclude on February 14. In the upcoming days, they plan to involve the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to provide first aid and CPR training for first responders in case of accidents.
“The training will be provided to commercial drivers and school drivers so that they can respond quickly to save precious lives. Additionally, we will be organizing medical camps, especially for eye checks,” he said.
ARTO Kulgam appealed to drivers to cooperate with the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) to ensure the success of future endeavours, including the SDRF program and eye checks.
“Road safety is not limited to a single day or month; it’s a social issue, not just a transportation issue. It requires collective efforts from every transporter to make our roads safer,” he added.
Kripak further added that in India, approximately 4.5 lakh accidents occur every year, resulting in around 1.5 lakh fatalities. More than 50 percent of these fatalities are distressing. He emphasized that by adhering to traffic laws, road accidents can be significantly reduced, thereby saving precious lives.
In commemoration of the month, a friendly cricket match was played between Media 11 and MVD Kulgam 11 to promote the positive aspects of the road safety month.
