MESA delegation from NIT Srinagar visits TATA innovation centre Baramulla

Srinagar, Nov 05: A Mechanical Engineering Student’s Association (MESA) of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, on Saturday, visited TATA’s Centre for Invention, Innovation, Incubation, and Training (CIIIT) Government Polytechnic College Baramulla.
The delegation comprised 91 students from 3rd-year Mechanical Engineering Department along with 3 faculty Coordinators Dr. H.S.Pali, Dr Mohsin Khan and Dr. Dinesh Kumar Rajendran.
In his message, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal said academic field tours are important for students to make them aware of their surroundings and introduce new ways of learning to gain desired information. “Such tours also allow them to learn, absorb and experience things practically,” he said.
Prof. Sehgal emphasized that such exposure tours should be held very frequently so that students are introduced to the practical working environment of Mechanical Engineering.
Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari lauded role of the Mechanical Engineering Department and assured the support of the institute administration for such a student-friendly initiative in the future.
“Academic tours play a vital role in the overall development of students to gain practical knowledge. It will allow students to remember, learn and understand subjects for their lifetime,” he said.
Prof. Bukhari said such practical sessions are the need of the hour and it will explore more in-depth knowledge to the students.
Chairman MESA and HoD Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Adnan Qayoom emphasized the department would always encourage and facilitate the organization of such technical visits and sessions.
Prof. Adnan said this first step towards bridging the gap between industry and institute innovation program will go a long way in creating a culture that will ultimately bridge the institute-industry gap.
Dr. Dinesh Kumar Rajendran, Faculty Coordinator, MESA, said they are looking forward to organise more such events for comprehensive learning of the students.
He said CIIIT Baramulla was set up by TATA technologies to promote innovation in Kashmir with 200 cr investment. 
“This has around 8 divisions from Manufacturing to IoT-controlled production line. Under the program, the students were given hands-on experience for various factory layout such as cycle assembly, e-vehicle, automobile cross fields, automation, safety system etc.,” Dr Rajendran said.
He said during the exposure program, the students were informed about the center automation in the industry with the sophisticated research facility.
Dr Rajendran also said students were also motivated towards start-ups and opportunities to become an entrepreneur in valley.
He expressed his gratitude to Er. Altaf Principal Govt. Polytechnic College Baramulla, Er. Parvez HoD and incharge CIIIT Baramulla, Er. Nauman Engineer and other staff members of CIIIT Baramulla for their support to the visit.
