Kangan, Nov 28: After a decade-long wait, the much-anticipated Maternity and Child Hospital in Kangan is set to become operational by May 2025, announced MLA Kangan Mian Mehar Ali during a review meeting today.
The hospital project, estimated to cost INR 27 crore, was assigned to the J&K Housing Board. Local residents believe the completion of the hospital will provide much-needed maternity and child care facilities, reducing the need for residents to travel to distant hospitals in Srinagar and other cities for treatment.
MLA Mian Mehar Ali expressed optimism, stating, “We are hopeful that the hospital will be completed soon, and the people of the area will benefit from it.” He emphasized that the facility is in its final stages of construction, bringing relief to the region’s residents.
For years, the Sub-District Hospital in Kangan has managed to serve the community despite limited resources. However, the lack of dedicated maternity facilities has forced many patients to endure long and sometimes dangerous journeys to Srinagar for medical care.
Local residents highlighted the life-threatening challenges faced by pregnant women from remote areas, calling on the government to ensure the timely completion of the hospital. “The slow pace of construction work has caused significant delays,” they noted, urging authorities to prioritize the project.
Once operational, the hospital is expected to ease the burden on Srinagar’s medical facilities by accommodating maternity patients from Kangan and nearby areas. Residents are hopeful that the modern maternity and child care services promised will finally be delivered, providing a long-awaited boost to healthcare in the region.
MLA Kangan Mian Mehar Ali told Rising Kashmir that the hospital building is in its final stages and is expected to be completed by May 2025.
He added that he had also raised this issue with CM Omar Abdullah and mentioned that he met with the J&K Housing Board to inquire about the progress of the hospital.
He said, “We are hopeful that the hospital will be completed soon, and the people of the area will benefit from it.”
