JAMMU, Dec 23: In a decisive operation late last night, the Indian Army successfully thwarted a major infiltration bid along the International Border (IB) in the Khour area of the Akhnoor sector in the Jammu region. Two terrorists were neutralized during the encounter, according to defence sources.
To enhance the chances of infiltration and divert the attention of Indian security forces, the enemy across the border initiated a tactic involving setting sarkanda (wild grass)/bushes on fire near the Pakistan Post. The objective was to impair the Indian Army’s night vision devices, as reported by defence sources.
Late last night, the Army detected four heavily armed terrorists attempting to infiltrate into the Indian side along the IB in Khour. Utilising state-of-the-art night surveillance devices, the White Knight Corps identified the threat and promptly engaged the infiltrators.
“The Army engaged the infiltrating terrorists, resulting in the elimination of one terrorist,” stated the Army. Subsequently, the remaining terrorists attempted to retreat, dragging the body of their fallen comrade back across the IB.
According to intelligence reports, one terrorist was killed on the spot, while the other succumbed to injuries today. Jammu-based defence PRO, Suneel Bartwal, confirmed the developments.
This is a new kind of strategy by the enemy to set on fire the sarkanda/bushes to blind the night vision devices of Indian security forces to facilitate infiltration of terrorists and also to facilitate their return after being fired upon by our forces, the defence sources said.
