Jammu, Sep 23: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) on Saturday celebrated the 128th birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh and paid tributes to him for his “contribution to peace and progress” in Jammu and Kashmir.
The party’s senior leadership cut the cake at the statue of Hari Singh in Jammu and revisited his “outstanding contribution” to the socioeconomic growth in Jammu and Kashmir. “We cannot forget what he did for the coming generations of J&K. He was a visionary ruler and if there is the growth and progress visible in the UT, it was all his contribution,” said General Secretary RS Chib.
“Even the accession to the Union of India was his farsightedness and he knew the UT with the Union of India is safe and secure and that in prevailing situation is proving totally right,” he said.
Provincial President Jammu Jugal Kishore Sharma said that Maharaja Hari Singh was a ruler who was holding the pain of common people in his heart and devising policies and laws aimed to benefit common and poor people. “He built roads, colleges and hospitals where people continue to receive free treatment and education. No ruler in the history of J&K has been so compassionate and kind hearted,” he said, adding that they paid tributes to ruler on behalf of the party chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Kishore added, “Even the concept of women empowerment in Jammu and Kashmir was all due to his efforts since he ensured free education to female children.”
