Lawyers’ delegation calls on Azad over High Court shifting

Jammu, Aug 04: A lawyers’ delegation on Friday met the former chief minister and Chairman Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), Ghulam Nabi Azad with regard to the non-shifting of the High Court to Raika forests.
The delegation apprised Azad that the reserve forests of Jammu have shrunk from 60 square km to 6 square km, thereby further damaging the green lung and causing havoc to the people of Jammu, a statement issued here said.
“It was also disclosed that sufficient land over 600 kanals is available with high court complex Janipur wherein structures with unique landscape were 23 years back and DPR for 35 courtrooms was approved in recent past on the instance of the then chief justice,” the statement said, adding, “When sufficient land is available for any type of expansion there is no use of damaging the biodiversity at Raika.”
The delegation included Ashok Sharma, B S Manhas, M R Qureshi, Roop Lal, Inderjeet Abrol, Rajinder Kumar, Zahid Sarfraz Malik, Suresh Sharma, Pawan K Kundal, Om Raj Gorkha, Om Singh Bandral, Varun Kotwal, Naresh Sharma, Gursimran Walia, Amarveer Manhas, Chander Dev Manhas, Pooja Pandit, Harmit Kumar Mehta, Ankush Sharma, Nakul Sharma, Ankush Raina, Rahul Dev Singh, Deepak Kumar, Sudesh Singh, Naresh Sharma, Sourav Singh Bhou, Thakur Mandeep Singh, Sourab Dogra, Sumit Sharma, Prikshant Shandal, the statement added.
