Kargil, Aug 28: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, said that the Union Territory has been on the path of steady development ever since its formation.Speaking to the media after attending the Suru Summer Festival in Kargil, Gupta said that Ladakh had faced discrimination in the past, but the UT status has opened avenues for progress.“Since becoming a Union Territory, Ladakh is witnessing development in multiple sectors. We are working to strengthen tourism, create employment opportunities, and improve health and education infrastructure for the people,” the Lt. Governor said.He added that Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has assured that the reopening of the Zojila Tunnel project will significantly ease connectivity issues for the people of Ladakh and also give a boost to tourism infrastructure. “Through enhanced air connectivity and government initiatives, Ladakh will get all possible support from the Centre,” Gupta said.The Lt. Governor expressed gratitude to the people and the administration for successfully organizing the Suru Summer Festival. “This cultural program will continue throughout the year to promote Ladakh’s rich heritage and attract more visitors,” he noted.Gupta also lauded the efforts of the Chairpersons of both Leh and Kargil Hill Councils. “In the past and at present, the CECs of Leh and Kargil have been doing commendable work for the development of Ladakh,” he added.
