Leh, October 31: President Droupadi Murmu, during her two-day visit to Ladakh, highlighted the significant progress achieved by the Union Territory since its formation in 2019.
Her visit began with a warm reception at Leh’s airport, where she was welcomed by Lieutenant Governor Dr. B. D. Mishra and senior officials of the Union Territory administration.
She highlighted the transformation of Ladakh into a Union Territory and praised the relentless dedication of the UT Administration and the Leh and Kargil Hill Councils. She acknowledged that Ladakh has come a long way in terms of development, infrastructure, and governance due to their collective efforts.
Murmu said the immense potential for Ladakh to become a thriving tourism hub. She emphasized that Ladakh’s unique natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and serene landscapes are assets that can draw tourists from around the world. She also stressed the need for sustainable and responsible tourism practices to preserve the region’s environment and culture.
Tourism in Ladakh has been steadily growing, with visitors flocking to the region to experience its pristine beauty and adventure opportunities. The region’s commitment to further developing and promoting tourism, which can bring economic prosperity to the area while maintaining its ecological and cultural integrity.
During her first-ever visit to Ladakh, President Murmu received an honor guard and participated in the Foundation Day Celebrations held at Sindu Sanskriti Kendra in Leh.
On the second day of her visit, President Murmu, also the Supreme Commander of the three services, paid a solemn visit to the Siachen Glacier base camp. There, she laid a wreath at the Martyr’s Memorial and interacted with the soldiers stationed in one of the world’s most challenging terrains.
President Murmu’s visit is of particular significance as it marks her first official trip to Ladakh since assuming the office of President of India in July of the previous year.
