Kulgam, Apr 30:
Shehrish Jahangir, a student of Government Higher Secondary School Bugam, has brought pride to Kulgam district by securing the second position in the Class 12 Science stream across Jammu and Kashmir in the JKBOSE Annual Regular Examination 2025.
A resident of Nunibugh village in Kulgam, Shehrish is the daughter of Jahangir Ahmad Bhat and Alfaza Akhtar. Her exceptional academic feat has made her a role model for students—especially girls—in the area.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir after the declaration of results on Wednesday, Shehrish expressed her happiness at the achievement.
“I was confident about scoring good marks as my papers had gone well, but I never imagined I would secure the second position. It was a moment of immense happiness for me and my family,” she said.
Shehrish credited her success to her family’s unwavering support during her studies, especially in times of pressure and stress.
“There were times I was stressed, especially while balancing board exams with preparation for competitive tests. But my family stood by me and helped me stay focused,” she said.

She said that consistency in studies was her biggest challenge. “It’s not easy to stay motivated every single day. But I kept reminding myself that I must work hard so I don’t regret anything later,” she said.
Reflecting on the nature of success and failure, Shehrish said, “Life isn’t only about success. Those who are behind today may move ahead tomorrow. We just have to keep trying and working hard.”
She said that it’s also important to work hard regardless of the type of school one attends. “Teachers are good everywhere. It’s not true that private schools are better or that government schools offer less quality education. The child’s dedication is what matters the most.”
With a long-standing dream of becoming a doctor, Shehrish said that her ambition was shaped by her parents from an early age. “Since childhood, my parents told me that I should become a doctor. That dream stayed with me and became my passion. Now, I am preparing for competitive exams,” she added.
She also expressed gratitude to her extended family, saying, “My parents, my uncle, even the younger children in my family supported me. They all believed in me, and that kept me going.”
