KU commences short-term programme on library automation & networking

Srinagar, Aug 27: The UGC–Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), University of Kashmir (KU), on Tuesday started a short-term programme on Library Automation & Networking, scheduled to run from August 26 to September 2, 2025. The programme has drawn participation from faculty and professionals of various higher educational institutions across the country.The programme is aimed at equipping library professionals and educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to adopt modern technologies for library automation, digital management, and networking. It seeks to enable participants to enhance efficiency, improve access to knowledge resources, and respond to emerging academic and research needs in the digital era.At the inaugural session, Registrar KU, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, in his address, said that these programmes reflect the University’s commitment to promoting capacity building and professional development among teachers and information professionals.“Such training courses not only keep participants abreast of new technologies but also help strengthen the academic ecosystem,” he said.Prof. Sangita Gupta, Head, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu, noted that capacity-building initiatives in library automation and networking will play a vital role in shaping research and learning outcomes in the years ahead.Earlier, in his welcome address, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Nazir, Director, MMTTC KU, highlighted the aims and objectives of the programme and also talked about the importance of skill development in academic libraries. Dr. Rosy Jan, Course Coordinator, provided an overview of the training schedule, including the themes and expected outcomes.The event proceedings of the inaugural session were conducted by Prof. Sumeer Gul, Deputy Director, MMTTC KU.
