Anantnag, Aug 27: Several houses, along with crops and land, were damaged after a cloudburst struck Margi village of Warwan and its adjoining areas in Kishtwar district, locals said.A resident, Muzaffar Ahmad from Mungli, said the cloudburst occurred near Shilansar lake, located on the upper side of Margi village, triggering flash floods in Warwan. He said over 30 houses and a few vehicles sustained substantial damage, but fortunately, no loss of life was reported. “It happened later in the evening when people ran for safety. No one was washed away or harmed,” he added.“In Gumri village, the floods damaged land and crops, while the same Shilansar lake cloudburst also hit Affti village, damaging several flour mills and some houses, including those of Gh Qadir Lone and Mohd Ramzan Lone,” Muzaffar said.Another cloudburst in Mungli Nallah also damaged several kanals of land. Flash floods in Ingshan Nallah (Nard) caused damage to large stretches of land as well, though no structures or lives were affected, he added.Taking to the microblogging site X, the Divisional Commissioner Jammu said the administration is closely monitoring the situation in Margi village, Warwan. While several houses have sustained damage, no casualties have been reported.“Officials of the district police and administration have shifted people to safer places. Everyone is requested not to pay attention to rumours or forward unverified news. Strict action shall be taken against those spreading rumours,” he said.An official from Kishtwar told Rising Kashmir that no human loss has been reported due to the cloudburst, though over 30 houses have been damaged. He added that some flour mill structures were also damaged, while the Ingish–Sukhnai road and Guldar–Margan Top road remain closed due to possible damage. “More than 50 per cent of crops in the affected and surrounding villages have also been damaged,” the official added.
