Kashmir’s first Vistadome coach will begin its operations from Budgam to Baramulla stations and all arrangements have been finalized, officials on Monday said.
A senior official at Northern Railways told Rising Kashmir that Vistadome service will be introduced in Kashmir valley soon and all arrangements have been finalized in this regard.
“The 40-seater couch is equipped with extra-large glass windows, LED lights, rotatable seats, and inbuilt GPS-based information system,” he said.
The official said the coach was manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai at an estimated cost of about Rs 4 crore.
“We are waiting for final dates for its inauguration and it will be introduced before the independence day,” he said.
Kashmir got its first train service in 2013 and it was inaugurated by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway (USBRL) railway track is being laid to connect Kashmir with the rest of the country. It comes under the jurisdiction of the Firozpur Railway division of Indian Railways’ Northern zone.
The 359 m (1,178 ft) tall Chenab Bridge lies on this line, which once completed will be the tallest railway bridge in the world.
