Baramulla, Dec 09: Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, who is also the administrative Judge of Baramulla, visited the district to inaugurate the 4th National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex.
The event, organized by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Baramulla, aimed to provide an alternative platform for dispute resolution outside the traditional court system.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Mohammad Ashraf Malik, and SSP Baramulla, Amod Ashok Nagpure, among others.
Justice Sanjeev Kumar emphasized the significance of Lok Adalats in resolving disputes efficiently, particularly those that have prolonged legal proceedings.
He urged the Legal Services fraternity to address long-pending cases within Lok Adalats, encouraging settlements with relevant departments to expedite resolutions.
During the event, Justice Sanjeev Kumar distributed cheques worth Rs. 31 lakhs to victims who suffered loss or injury due to offenses and required rehabilitation.
The distinguished guest inaugurated the Post Office Branch at the Court Complex Baramulla and inspected various benches of the National Lok Adalat to gain insights into the cases being addressed.
Nine benches were constituted, handling a total of 800 cases, out of which 500 were amicably settled, reflecting the effectiveness of the Lok Adalat mechanism.
Justice Sanjeev Kumar also interacted with the Bar Association Baramulla and visited Sub Judge Court Pattan.
Members of the Bar Association presented their grievances, and the Justice assured prompt redressal of their concerns.
