JU to streamline recruitment, focus on research & start-ups: LG

Chairs 88th University Council meeting of University of Jammu Directs JU to promote local languages & culture

Jammu, Dec 30: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha presided over the 88th meeting of the University Council of the University of Jammu at Raj Bhavan today.
The University Council deliberated on various academic and administrative matters to enhance the university’s overall functioning.
The meeting granted in-principle approval to several agenda items, including the adoption and incorporation of provisions in line with the guidelines and notifications of the UGC and the National Education Policy 2020.
The Lieutenant Governor directed the university to regularly revise its curriculum and courses, incorporating emerging trends and the demands of the modern world. He emphasized the importance of promoting local languages and the region’s culture.
He also instructed the university to prioritize faculty strengthening, expedite the filling of vacant teaching and non-teaching positions, and address promotion-related matters under the Career Advancement Scheme.
Further, the Lieutenant Governor issued necessary directions for streamlining the e-office system and ensuring the timely completion of ongoing projects.
On the occasion, the Council members congratulated the Vice Chancellor and the faculty and staff of the University of Jammu for achieving the prestigious A++ Grade from NAAC with an outstanding CGPA of 3.72, making it the only A++ university in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Council also discussed the success of the “Design Your Own Degree” undergraduate program and deliberated on streamlining the recruitment process for various positions, onboarding sports experts for the effective implementation of the university’s Sports Policy, and the credit framework for the Design Your Degree program.
Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, presented a detailed report highlighting the university’s focus on research, skill development, internships, start-ups, experiential learning through major projects, and its digital and environment-friendly initiatives. He also emphasized promoting transdisciplinary and holistic education.
The meeting was attended by Sakina Ittoo, Minister for Higher Education; Shri Shantmanu, Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department; Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor; Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu; Prof. Alok Kumar Rai, Vice Chancellor, Lucknow University; Prof. K.S. Chandrasekhar, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Jammu; Prof. A.K. Kaul, former Professor, Department of Sociology, BHU Varanasi; Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Registrar, Jammu University; and other Council members.
Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Secretary, Planning, Monitoring, and Development Department; Prof. Nilofer Khan, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University; and Prof. Mohd Mohin, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Srinagar joined the meeting virtually.
