Srinagar, July 10: In a significant development, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said that it have formally arrested ten persons in connection with a conspiracy to revive the banned organizations JKLF (Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front) and Hurriyat. The arrests were made following an ongoing investigation into the matter.
In a handout issued here today, the police said in this case FIR No 23/2023, has been registered under Sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, as well as Section 121A of the Indian Penal Code, at the Kothibagh Police Station.
The police spokesman said that preliminary findings indicate that the arrested persons, along with others, were allegedly involved in plans to revive these organizations, on the directions of handlers based in Pakistan. The meeting, during which these plans were discussed, was an overt attempt to start working for revival of these moribund organisations.
Initial investigations, according to police official, it has been found that the arrested individuals were also in contact with foreign entities. Several of them were reportedly associated with various secessionist groups, such as the Kashmir Global Council led by Farooq Siddiqui and Raja Muzaffer of JKLF.
Meanwhile, investigations have also revealed that a preliminary meeting took place on June 13, 2023, attended by most of the arrested individuals. The details of that meeting are currently being scrutinized for additional insights into the conspiracy.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Yaseen Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, resident of Nigeenbagh, Mohammad Rafiq Pahloo, son of Ghulam Hassan, resident of Natipora, Shams-u-din Rehmani, son of Amir Ahmad, resident of Lalbazar, Jahangeer Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Gani Bhat, resident of Batengo, Sopore, Khurshid Ah Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad, resident of Rawalpora, Shabir Ah Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi, resident of Badamwari, Sopore, Sajad Hussain Gul, son of Abdul Hamid, resident of Panthachowk, Firdous Ah Shah, son of Ali Mohammad, resident of Abiguzar, Parray Hassan Firdous, son of Abdul Rashid, resident of Lawaypora, Sohail Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Salam, resident of Peerbagh, Budgam.
The investigation into the case is currently underway and authorities anticipate the possibility of more arrests.
