Srinagar, June 11: In a significant initiative, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has successfully distributed a staggering 1,990,640 textbooks to students from first to eighth grades in 91 educational zones across the Kashmir division this academic year.
Under the government’s educational support program, the JKBOSE provided these textbooks free of cost to students in all government schools throughout the Kashmir Valley. The distribution of textbooks was coordinated and funded by the Chief Educational Officers of all districts for first and second-grade classes. For students in grades three to eight, the textbooks were distributed using the Samgra Shiksha funds allocated to government schools in the valley.
According to an official from JKBOSE, the distribution breakdown by grade is as follows: 396,289 textbooks for first-grade students, 233,500 for second-grade students, 165,212 for third-grade students, and 162,292 for fourth-grade students. In addition, 171,220 textbooks were provided for fifth-grade students, 292,194 for sixth-grade students, 286,447 for seventh-grade students, and 283,486 for eighth-grade students.
It is important to note that textbooks for grades nine through twelve were not included in this initiative. Students in these higher grades were required to purchase their textbooks from designated book sellers at the applicable JKBOSE rates.
This distribution of textbooks to young learners aims to enhance access to quality education and support their academic journey. The initiative has been widely praised by educators, students, and parents, who believe that providing free textbooks will contribute to a more inclusive and equitable education system in the region.
The JKBOSE remains committed to improving educational opportunities and outcomes for students across Jammu and Kashmir. Their efforts to ensure the availability of essential learning materials are vital for nurturing a well-educated and knowledgeable society, preparing students for a bright future.
