Jammu, March 24: The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) Monday organised a literary programme, ‘Ru-Ba-Ru’, at the K L Saigal Auditorium, Writers’ Club, Jammu, under the guidance of Harwinder Kour, Secretary JKAACL.
The event was dedicated to celebrating the life and literary contributions of Dalip Singh Deepak, a distinguished Punjabi writer from Kashmir. The programme was presided over by Ajit Singh Mastana, a noted Punjabi Ghazal writer, while Dr Arvinder Singh Amn graced the occasion as the chief guest. Among the dignitaries present were Harji Singh Uppal, President of Punjabi Sahitak Sabha, R S Pura, Dr Javaid Rahi, Head of the Divisional Office, JKAACL and Popinder Singh Paras, Editor of Sheeraza Punjabi, JKAACL. The event witnessed an impressive gathering of intellectuals and writers from various linguistic backgrounds. Born in Rankipora, Berwa (Budgam, Kashmir), Prof. Dalip Singh Deepak developed a passion for poetry from a young age. Holding an MA in Punjabi and a B.Ed., he dedicated his career to education, serving as a teacher and headmaster. His literary contributions include three Punjabi poetry collections—’Haadsiyan Ton Futtey Akkhar, Anhadnaad and Sahaj Subhae. His literary excellence earned him the ‘Writer of the Year’ award from J&K Punjabi Sahit Sabha, Srinagar. Eminent Punjabi writer Rattan Singh Kanwal presented a paper on the life and literary contributions of Prof. Deepak. During the programme, Prof. Deepak shared insights into his creative journey, reflecting on his inspirations and the themes that shape his work. In his presidential address, Ajit Singh Mastana commended Prof. Deepak’s humanistic and literary contributions, highlighting the depth and craftsmanship in his works. He also praised JKAACL for its commitment to promoting literature and culture across Jammu and Kashmir. Dr Javaid Rahi, in his remarks, elaborated on Prof. Deepak’s literary themes and creative process, following an engaging interactive session with the poet. Earlier, Popinder Singh Paras, Editor of Sheeraza Punjabi and programme Incharge, JKAACL, welcomed the gathering, emphasising the Academy’s efforts in organising literary initiatives like ‘Ru-Ba-Ru’, ‘Meet the Eminent’, book launches, and seminars.
