Srinagar, Apr 21: Over 600 police personnel from Jammu and Kashmir Police are being trained through a capsule course at Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy in Udhampur to deploy ‘invisible policing initiative’ for the upcoming G20 meeting in Srinagar, police officials said on Saturday.
The police personnel are being trained to understand the tactics and strategies used in invisible policing and will be deputed at various places at the venues after completing their two-week training course. Most of them will be performing their duties in civvies to ensure comfort for the delegates, a senior police officer at PCR Kashmir said.
Apart from trained police personnel, special teams of forces will monitor the venues through CCTV cameras, drones and other tools. The police will also use facial recognition software and data analysis tools to monitor public spaces.
The third G20 Tourism Working Group meeting will be held between May 22-24 in Srinagar and preparations are underway to make the mega event successful in the Valley. The Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre, located on Dal Lake, will be the primary site for hosting the G20 meetings.
During the three-day event, discussions will take place in Srinagar, and foreign delegates will have the opportunity to go sightseeing in Baramulla, Dachigam National Park, and the ski resort of Gulmarg.
On April 15, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the security situation and preparations of the G-20 meet, scheduled to be held in Srinagar. He urged all agencies to work in a coordinated manner for the success of the event.
The G20 forum represents around 85% of global GDP, with Saudi Arabia, Germany, Canada, and France as members, and India, China, Indonesia, and the US as its members.
