Jammu, July 11: Prominent fencers from Jammu and Kashmir — Shreya Gupta, Rishika Khajuria and Sufiyan Wahid Sohil — are set to represent India at the prestigious 2025 FISU World University Games, scheduled to be held in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany from July 17 to 22.A statement issued here said that these accomplished athletes qualified for the international event based on their outstanding performances in the trials held at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU). Shreya secured the top position in the Sabre category, while Sufiyan led in Epee. Rishika impressed with a third-place finish in the Sabre category.The trio also delivered strong performances at the All India Inter-University Fencing Championship hosted by Jammu University, where they represented GNDU and clinched medals. With several national and international accolades already to their name, the athletes continue to bring pride to Jammu and Kashmir. The J&K Amateur Fencing Association has lauded the fencers’ achievements and commended their selection for the global competition. President Nisha Sharma, General Secretary Bhanu Vijay Sharma, and Treasurer Sanjay Gupta extended their heartfelt congratulations and expressed confidence in the athletes’ potential to excel on the world stage. “We are immensely proud of our fencers. Their dedication and consistent performances have earned them this well-deserved honour. We wish them all the very best for the upcoming Games,” the Association said in a statement.
