Srinagar, Dec 06: The Jammu and Kashmir Congress’s Fact-Finding Committee constituted to examine the reasons behind the party’s historic defeat in the recent Assembly elections is set to submit its report to the JKPCC leadership within the next 5-6 days.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Senior Vice President and Chief Spokesperson of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, Ravinder Sharma said the report will be submitted within the next 5-6 days to the party higher-ups. It will then be thoroughly analyzed by the leadership, he said.
“Draft is in the final stage and it will take a few days to take it final stage,” Sharma added.
The committee was formed on October 18 by JKPCC chief Tariq Hameed Karra and tasked with preparing a comprehensive analysis within 30 days. Its mandate was to introspect and identify the factors that led to the party’s worst-ever performance in the region, with an aim to strategise for future improvements.
During the recent Assembly elections, Congress contested 32 Assembly constituencies and fielded candidates in six seats in the Kashmir Valley and 26 in the Jammu region. However, the party managed to win only five seats in the valley and one in Rajouri, in alliance with the National Conference.
It was a setback for the Congress, particularly in the Jammu region, where it was completely wiped out in 9 out of 10 districts.
The parliamentary losses led to the removal of Vikar Rasool from the JKPCC president’s post, with Tariq Hameed Karra stepping in to lead the party during the Assembly elections.
