Srinagar, Dec 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Arm Wrestling Championship and Para Arm Wrestling Championship will commence on January 10, 2025, at the Indoor Stadium in Srinagar. The two-day event is expected to see the participation of over 400 athletes from various districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Former Mr. Kashmir, Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar, informed the media that several prominent figures will attend the event, including Praveen Dabas, Chief Advisor of the People’s Arm Wrestling Federation of India, and Preeti Jagiani, founder of Pro Panja.
Zargar also highlighted that the Jammu and Kashmir Arm Wrestling Association had hosted a national-level competition last year, in which over 1,000 athletes participated, and the region secured 20 medals. He added that athletes could register online for the championship.
Farooq Ahmad Dar, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Arm Wrestling Association, emphasized that athletes from all 20 districts of the region would take part in the event. He mentioned that the championship would feature 10 different categories, covering various age groups and weight divisions. The competition will also include separate events for physically challenged athletes.
Dar further explained that the main goal of the event is to promote fitness among youth and keep them away from drugs and other social vices. He urged the government, particularly the Minister for Youth Services and Sports, to provide logistical support to ensure the success of the championship.
