Srinagar, Jan 18: In a historic milestone for the National Cadet Corps (NCC), newly established 1 J&K Air Squadron NCC successfully conducted its maiden flight on January 17 at Udhampur.
This achievement, organized under the aegis of the NCC Directorate Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh, marks a significant step in the organization’s commitment to providing dynamic training opportunities to its cadets.
Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, Spokesperson Ministry of Defence, Jammu told Rising Kashmir that NCC cadets from the newly raised 1 J&K Air Squadron NCC made their inaugural flight, marking a significant achievement for the NCC.
“The maiden flight took place at Udhampur, under the aegis of NCC DTE Jammu Kashmir & Ladakh, offering the cadets an unforgettable experience and hands-on exposure to aviation,” he said.
The spokesman said that 1 J&K Air Sqn NCC which has been recently raised under the leadership of its first Commanding Officer Wing Commander Nitin Yadav holds the unique distinction of being the first and the only Air NCC squadron in this region.
“The unit is dedicated to fostering excellence in aviation and adventure training among cadets, preparing them for leadership roles both within the armed forces and in civilian life,” he said.
The spokesman said that unit has been equipped with Microlight aircrafts to ensure flying training of cadets and gain practical experience in aviation.
Cadet Siya Kotwal from SKUAST Jammu, the first cadet to take to the skies, expressed her enthusiasm, said that flying was an experience she will never forget.
“It is a dream come true and an opportunity I never imagined I would get. This flight has inspired me to push myself further and pursue my passion for aviation,” he said.
Cadet Aviral from Army Public School, Udhampur said that flying experience has motivated him to push toward his dream of joining the Armed Forces.
Speaking at the event, Wing Commander Nitin Yadav said that the first flight signifies not just a technical achievement but a new chapter in the NCC’s mission to inspire and challenge the youth of our nation.
“We are proud to provide opportunities for cadets to explore new horizons and enhance their skills in multi-dimensional domains,” he said.
Yadav said that this successful event sets the stage for expanding aviation and adventure training programs in the region. The 1 J&K Air Squadron NCC is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of young leaders by instilling discipline, confidence, and teamwork, he added.
