Srinagar, Dec 27: Srinagar’s bustling junction, Jahangir Chowk, is set to undergo a transformative redesign aimed at mitigating persistent traffic challenges and enhancing the overall urban experience for both vehicular and pedestrian movement.
Athar Amir Khan, the Chief Executive Officer of Srinagar Smart City on Wednesday, emphasised the need for a comprehensive solution to address the long-standing issues of traffic snarls and congestion at the busiest intersection in Srinagar.
Jahangir Chowk recognized as the busiest hub in the city’s dynamics, has been plagued by traffic woes, significantly impacting the daily lives of residents and visitors. The upcoming redesign is poised to revolutionize the area, promising not only improved vehicular flow but also a heightened pedestrian experience. CEO Athar Amir Khan stressed the importance of adopting a holistic approach to urban planning, ensuring a seamless blend of functionality and aesthetics.
The ambitious project goes beyond mere infrastructural enhancements; it envisions the development of the surrounding historic Chowk area, making it a focal point for residents and tourists alike. The aim is to create a model for efficient urban design, addressing the ongoing traffic jams that have been a source of concern for residents. The comprehensive plan includes a commitment to resolving these issues, promising a significant alleviation of traffic congestion in the Jahangir Chowk stretch.
The redesign is not just about easing traffic; it’s about creating an eye-catching space that resonates with the city’s commitment to a more livable and aesthetically pleasing environment.
The official assured that once the project is completed, Jahangir Chowk will undergo a remarkable transformation, not just in terms of functionality but also in its visual appeal.
