Ganderbal, June 24: A group of more than 30 tourists from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, currently enjoying their holiday in the alpine meadows of Sonamarg, has issued a heartfelt appeal to fellow Indians: “Visit Kashmir without fear — it’s safer, more beautiful, and more welcoming than you think.”
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, the tourists said their experience in the Valley had shattered long-held misconceptions. “Don’t believe in fake news. There is no fear here — we feel completely safe and are having a wonderful time,” said one of the tourists, as the group took in the breathtaking scenery of Sonamarg surrounded by snow-capped peaks.
The group spoke enthusiastically about their horse-riding excursions and praised the warmth and hospitality of local residents. “The people here are incredibly friendly and helpful. We never felt like outsiders,” they said, adding that the atmosphere was “entirely peaceful and tourist-friendly.”
One couple in the group went so far as to draw comparisons with global destinations. “Kashmir is even more stunning than Switzerland. The beauty of Sonamarg is beyond words,” they said, posing for photos with the majestic Himalayas in the backdrop.
But for many in the group, the trip was more than just sightseeing — it was a gesture of solidarity. “This is not just a holiday. Tourism is the lifeline of Kashmir’s economy. Especially during difficult times, it’s important that we support the people here,” said another member of the group.
The visitors highlighted how their experience had contradicted the often negative portrayal of Kashmir in some sections of the media. “We’ve seen nothing but kindness, calm, and natural beauty. Kashmir is truly heaven on earth — and it is peaceful,” they added.
Their message comes at a crucial time for the Valley’s tourism sector, which is still recovering from the dip in tourist arrivals following a recent terror incident. The Kanpur group expressed hope that their testimony would encourage more domestic travellers to shed hesitation and visit Kashmir.
Their visit, filled with positive experiences, offers a morale boost for tourism stakeholders and serves as a reminder that the region remains open, secure, and eager to welcome guests from across the country.
