Srinagar, July 10: Islamia College, in collaboration with the State Bank of India (SBI), Srinagar, conducted a plantation drive under the theme “Plant for Mother Nature” to address the pressing issue of climate change. The event, inaugurated by Principal Professor Dr. Tehmina Yousuf, emphasized the critical role of trees in capturing carbon dioxide, water, and mitigating extreme heat.
In her speech, Dr. Yousuf highlighted the significant environmental benefits of planting trees and called for active participation from both students and faculty to create a greener campus. The event was supported by faculty members of the Botany Department, led by Dr. Showket Yousuf Beigh, and Convenor of the ECO Club, Dr. M.D. Bhat. They expressed gratitude to the principal and SBI officials for facilitating the initiative.
Students from various academic disciplines, along with college staff, participated enthusiastically in the drive. The activities included planting indigenous plant species in the college’s botanical garden and engaging in discussions on ecological conservation. This initiative marks a step forward in Islamia College’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
