Banihal, 20 April ; National Conference leader and MLA Banihal, Mr. Sajjad Shaheen, today organized a comprehensive public outreach programme at the remotest village Mahu in Tehsil Khari, highlighting the sustained commitment of the government led by Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah towards strengthening the rural economy and ensuring inclusive development.
The programme featured a free medical camp by Health Department in collaboration with 23RR Khari , where a large number of people from Mahu and adjoining areas availed medical consultations and basic healthcare services. The initiative was aimed at ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare, particularly in rural and far-flung areas.
On the occasion, biomass cookers were distributed among beneficiaries to promote clean and sustainable cooking practices, reducing dependence on conventional fuels and contributing to environmental conservation.
In a significant step towards livelihood enhancement, lavender saplings were also distributed to encourage farmers to adopt high-value aromatic crops, thereby creating new avenues of income generation.
An awareness session was conducted in collaboration with the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, focusing on modern farming practices, sustainable agriculture, and various government schemes for farmers.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sajjad Shaheen highlighted the revolutionary developmental initiatives undertaken during the past one year in the Banihal-Gool constituency.
He stated that remarkable progress has been achieved across key sectors including education, healthcare, road connectivity, hydro-power projects, sports infrastructure, bridges, and other developmental works, significantly improving the quality of life for the people.
He also referred to the historic passage of his Private Member’s Bill for the establishment of a University Campus in Banihal, stating that it will usher in a new era of educational transformation in the region by providing greater access to higher education for local youth.
The MLA further welcomed the passing of the Bill for establishment of private universities in Jammu and Kashmir, terming it a landmark step that will attract investment in the education sector, expand academic opportunities, and create employment avenues.
Mr. Shaheen also lauded Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah for his visionary announcement of establishing National Law Universities (NLUs) in both Jammu and Kashmir, stating that these premier institutions will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of youth by providing quality legal education and opening new career pathways in the years to come.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, he emphasized that such initiatives reflect a holistic approach towards development, combining economic growth, social welfare, and educational advancement.
Tehsildar Khari, ZEO Khari, BMO Banihal, CHO Ramban, CAO Ramban, RO Banihal, SDAO Apiculture, SHO Khari besides prominent party functionaries were present on theoccasion.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the public, officials of concerned departments, and local representatives.
