New Delhi, Apr 22 : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday attached multiple properties of a Jaish-e-Mohammed operative in connection with the 2017 fidayeen attack on a CRPF camp in Jammu and Kashmir that left five personnel dead.

The action was taken under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act following orders of a special NIA court in Jammu, officials said.

The attached properties include land parcels and residential premises located in Lethpora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The agency said the assets belonged to Fayaz Ahmad Magray, an accused in the case, and were identified as proceeds of terrorism.

Magray, a resident of Lethpora, was arrested in February 2019 and later chargesheeted by the NIA under various provisions of the Ranbir Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The trial in the case is currently underway.

According to the agency, the December 30, 2017 attack was carried out by three heavily armed terrorists who entered the CRPF camp in Lethpora and opened fire, leading to the death of five paramilitary personnel and injuries to three others. The attackers were later killed in retaliatory action by security forces.

Investigations revealed that Magray was an active overground worker of the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed outfit and had played a role in facilitating the attack.

The NIA said he had participated in meetings with the terrorists involved in planning the assault and, along with other operatives, conducted reconnaissance of the target.

The agency also alleged that Magray helped arrange weapons and assisted one of the attackers in escaping from the area after the reconnaissance.

Two other Jaish operatives linked to the case — Noor Mohammad Tantray and Mudasir Ahmad Khan — were killed in separate encounters with security forces.

Officials said the attachment of properties is part of continued efforts to dismantle terror networks and choke their financial and logistical support systems in Jammu and Kashmir.(KNS)
