Srinagar, Apr 9: A devastating fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday at Shalla Kadal in the Habba Kadalarea of Srinagar, gutting at least five residential houses.
Officials said a distress call was received at 3:32 AM at the State Fire Control Room in Batamaloo, following which fire tenders from multiple stations, including Headquarters, SH Pora, Maharaj Gunj, and Babdemb, were immediately rushed to the spot.
Upon arrival, firefighters found 3–4 closely attached residential houses engulfed in flames. Firefighting operations were launched without delay; however, the blaze intensified due to multiple gas cylinder explosions, causing the fire to spread further.
The operation was carried out under the overall supervision of DG F&ES Alok Kumar IPS, while several senior officers remained present at the site to monitor and manage the situation.
After strenuous efforts, the fire was eventually brought under control.The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained and is currently under investigation.
